Dad (Coach Elywon Hughes) met with his Oncologist today to get the full report of his bone marrow test and decide what to do next. Dad has the same Acute Myeloid Leukemia that he was diagnosed with back in March ’09. It’s a very aggressive type of Leukemia. He was tested in January of this year for this and it was negative. So this Leukemia has returned since then. The doctor has told Dad that he needs to have chemo again. Without chemo, he will die in less than a month. Last year, when Dad went through the chemo it was brutal on him. Today, Dad was admitted to Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. He is going to be having chemo treatments every 12 hours for 3 days. This is a shorter round of chemo but a stronger round of chemo. He will be in the hospital for at least 2 weeks but we expect that will be longer because this is going to be extremely hard on him. His platelets and blood counts will get very low during this. He will lose his hair again and be very sick. Dad has an uphill battle ahead of him. With chemo, he has a 50/50 chance of survival. Last year, Dad had so many prayers being said for him and his doctor was shocked to see him go in remission and said he shouldn’t even be here after battling that aggressive Leukemia. But we know that the power of prayer is awesome and that God DOES answer prayers! So please keep Dad in your prayers again as he begins another tough battle against this Leukemia.
